Who we are and what we do
We're a friendly group at Severn Valley Quilters and always welcome visitors and new members.
To give an idea of the kind of things we do, here's a report of recent meetings and a taste of what we had on show at Thornbury Town Hall in April 2011. At the bottom of the page, you'll find our programme for 2012.
Recent meetings
Recent meetings of Severn Valley Quilters have been very enjoyable. We started our New Year with the AGM, after which the business was followed by a workshop making Penny Rug coasters, mats or brooches. Penny rug making was very popular during Victorian times and the members all had a fun time using felt and embroidery skills making these simple but effective items.

In February we were pleased to welcome Lynne Quinn, a popular City & Guilds teacher from Bristol, who taught us the principles of making patchwork based on the patterns of the Seminole Indians from The Everglades region of the USA. These intricate pieces proved to be easier to produce than we had all thought and the members were kept busy sewing all evening, producing various patterns.
At the March meeting, we will be making ‘Funky Chickens’ with Lorraine and then from April 20th – 28th we have again been invited to exhibit some of our work at the Arts Trail as part of the Arts Festival. Do come along to the Town Hall and see some of us at work there and I'm sure there will be some chickens on parade.
As always, visitors or new members will be welcome at any of our meetings, where you are assured of a warm welcome.
Our involvement in the Showcase Exhibition for the Severn Vale Art Trail
From 14th to 21st April 2011, Severn Valley Quilters exhibited members' work in Thornbury Town Hall. as part of the Showcase Exhibition for the Severn Vale Art Trail. At any time of year, you can also see a Millennium Quilt, made by us in 1999, on permanent display on the stairs inside the Town Hall.
Come and see us at our 2012 show in the Town Hall, from 20th - 28th April!
Meetings
The group meets at 7.30pm on the 4th Wednesday of each month in the Cossham Hall, Thornbury - except August (no meeting) and December (when dates vary).
