Feb 2012
To end of April	Silver Jubilee Exhibition (including part of the Littleton Whale!), Thornbury & Dist. Museum, Chapel St, Thornbury, Tuesdays to Fridays 1-4pm and Saturdays 10am – 4pm, FREE entry
6th	Monday at the Movies: Carey Mulligan gives an exceptional performance as 16 year old schoolgirl Jenny in this superb coming-of-age story set in 1960s suburban London. Cert 12. Licensed bar & soft drinks. Free admission but donations welcome. St Mary’s Church, Olveston. Doors open 7pm for 7.30 start.
8th	Deadline for parishioners to return Olveston Parish Council questionnaires (anonymous) about prospective wind farm at Ingst.
8th	Old Down Cricket Club: Registration Evening for children in School Year 3 or above who would like to join the Club’s Junior Section. Prospective players and parents welcome. (Our Junior Indoor Nets start on Sat. 18 Feb.) Reg. Evening, Old Down Sports & Social Club, Alexandra Pavilion, 6.30pm.

13th	Children’s Movie Club: Far away in a tiny mushroom village, live a group of little blue pixies in short trousers. Four cartoon films from the Hanna-Barbera series. Cert U. Refreshments. Free admission. St Mary’s Church, Olveston. Doors open 9.30am for 10am start.
13th	Monday at the Movies: An unemployed cellist finds a new lease of life tending to the newly dead in this acclaimed Japanese comedy-drama. Oscar-winner 2009. Cert 12. Licensed bar & soft drinks. Free admission but donations welcome. St Mary’s Church, Olveston. Doors open 7pm for 7.30 start.
mid-Feb on	Box Office (John & Judy Jones, 613482) opens for Parish Players’ production of ‘Me and My Girl’, Parish Hall nightly at 7.30pm. A home-grown, hit British musical, featuring ‘The Lambeth Walk’, ‘Leaning on the Lamp Post’ and our very own pearly royalty.
15-18th	Babes in the Wood (Thornbury Musical Theatre Group). Come and cheer the hero, laugh at the dame and boo the villains! Tickets (Karen 853947): £11/£9 for raised seating, £10/£8 on the flat, family ticket for 4, £35 raised, £30 flat. Group booking concessions also available. Armstrong Hall, 7.30pm.
16th	Olveston Police Beat Surgery 2012, Olveston Stores Coffee Shop, 10.30-11.30am
20th	UWE Big Band at St Mary’s Olveston, 7.30pm. As it’s the eve of Shrove Tuesday, there’ll be pancakes in the interval and a paying bar. Tickets £7.50 from June Robbins (617491) or Olveston Stores.
21st	Line Dancing Evening in aid of Cancer Research UK. Good fun, exercise, light refreshments and support for a good cause. Tickets £5 from Betty Cain (01453 843802) or any local Cancer Research UK committee member. Armstrong Hall, Thornbury.
22nd	Severn Valley Quilters, Seminole Patchwork with Lynne Quinn, Visitors’ fee £3.50, Cossham Hall, Chapel St, Thornbury, 7.30pm
24th	Bollywood and Curry at Thornbury Picture House. A fund-raising event for the Armstrong Hall Backstage Refurbishment Appeal. Pre-book your tickets (to ensure your hot supper cooked by Thornbury’s own chef Romy Gill) by ringing 412272 or buying them at the Town Hall: £10. Armstrong Hall: curry supper served at 7pm, followed by the Cert 12A Bollywood film at approx. 7.45pm.
25th	St Mary’s Gift Day (your chance to give donations to and chat with representatives of St Mary’s Olveston), outside Olveston Stores, 8am – 3pm.

29th	Deadline for South Gloucestershire Council’s Broadband Survey of local residents and local businesses. Complete an online survey to help the Council plan improvements to the local broadband service.

Mar 2012
3rd	Quiz Night – open to all! Make up a team and come along. Olveston Sports and Social Club, The Alexandra Pavilion, Old Down, 8.15pm
7th	Olveston Parish Historical Society - Talk by Prof. Tom James: ‘The Greatest Catastrophe in Recorded History: The Black Death of 1348-50’. Visitors welcome, £2. Methodist Hall, Olveston, 7.30pm.
9th-11th	Thornbury Rotary Club Swimarathon at Thornbury Leisure Centre on three consecutive evenings. Proceeds to go to Cancer Research UK, Meningitis UK and local charities and other good causes.
10-18th	Thornbury Eisteddfod – competitive categories in woodwind, brass, strings, piano, voice, ensembles, speech and drama. See the syllabus here.
